James Walton, MD

Dr. James Patrick Walton M.D. is Board Certified in Family Medicine and enjoys practicing at Southern Family Medical Center in the South Augusta area. Dr. Walton completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Georgia and completed his Doctorate in Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia. He then completed his Family Medicine residency at the Naval Hospital, Jacksonville, Florida and enjoyed serving in the Navy for 7 years before returning to Augusta. In 2019, Dr. Walton moved to northern Canada to assist physicians in need of support for a First Nation hospital and health care association that was serving its indigenous population. Now, Dr. Walton has returned to Southern Family Medical Center to continue working alongside the team here.

Dr. Walton is passionate towards preventive measures and healthy lifestyle modifications for his patients in hopes of reducing the risk and burdens of chronic disease. But whether it is a chronic ailment or a new problem, Dr. Walton is ready to help serve your healthcare needs.

Dr. Walton lives locally with his wife and two children. He enjoys spending time outdoors with his family and is involved in his local church. He also enjoys teaching and working alongside students both at the office as well as on medical mission trips.
